Best Architects Album
This is the best Architects album yet. It slaps hard and I can’t stop listening to it.
I’ve never listened to these guys before. Everyone here saying album of the year are already fans of theirs. As a first time listener, it’s not bad, but it’s boring and extremely generic.
There’s no disrespect in 4/5
I rated this album a 4/5, but not because it’s quality of material. In a vacuum, it’s a 5/5. But when compared to other works by them, it’s a 4/5. Nothing to be ashamed of and I’m not being critical- these guys kick butt.
The Seventh Circle is awesome.
So are many of the songs. Mortal After All, Holy Hell...there’s some very heavy moments here.
When I first listened to LF/LT, the first Architects album I had ever heard, I heard “Broken Cross”. I was totally blown away. The album was and is a masterpiece. The guitars are very technical, mixed with ambience, dynamics of highs and lows, extremely moving lyrics, and the vocals were slightly less in the forefront in the mix.
I don’t hear a “Colony Collapse” or a “The Distant Blue”.
Sam’s vocals are different on LT/LF. There is a half song half scream going on with individual words, mixed with full cleans and full screams. Each word is like a crescendo. Sam’s overall vocal quality may be better now, but I appreciated the style more than the vocals on albums since.
To this day, that album is in my top 25 all time metal albums.
AOGHAU was a change. Less of that desperate energy of everything that is messed up with the Earth, more slow, foreboding guitar lines. Much heavier bass and heavy synths. Some very very good lyrics, but really not quite as interesting.
This album is further along the lines of AOGHAU. Which, isn’t bad per say. It’s a super solid sound. NO ONE sounds like Sam. With the tragic death of Tom, the technicality, which seemed to be phasing out for a broader reaching sound (smart decision from a business POV- I have nothing but respect for that as an entrepreneur) in Tom’s writing anyways, has continued to become more basic. But, at least it is focused and consistent and still has a very heavy sound.
There isn’t another metal band with the same sort of electronic ambience mixed with the metal aspect that they deliver. That’s always going to be top shelf. It’s fun to listen to, it’s great to have, it just isn’t quite the same as LT/LF. That album has an aggression and chaos that just may never be replicated again.
Everything anyone could ever ask of music. Thank you Architects.
Good, but very repetitive
Don’t get me wrong, this was a great album, and the bands musicality is really good. Not being a previous fan of Architects, I’m not sure what their old music is like. But this album was very repetitive in my opinion. The choruses are all practically identical vocally, and the screams aren’t anything super special to be reused so much. (Which is why I found myself liking the clean parts the most)
The guitarist/s use very repetitive riffs, and as the album goes on you can tell they got a little tired using as little as three notes in an intro.
The drums actually don’t seem too overused, so that’s good.
Again, I enjoyed the album. But it’s only 4/5 for me.
I’ve been following this band for years and wow this is their and justice for all. From opening to close this captivated me. You can feel the emotional weight from beginning to end. The title track hits harder than anything I’ve heard from other bands. This album hits me on a personal level and I can’t let it go. Their best work to date. And yes Rest In Peace Tom you would be extremely proud.
Good lord this album RIPS!!!!!
This album reminds me of why I got into this band. The riffs melt your face, the songs are easy to sing along with. I’m so happy for these dudes. They nailed this album and deserve all the best.
You know, there are bands that you hear about from other bands you may follow....Architects are that band for me. I always see a lot of groups who I listen to, recommend them. I had a friend send me “Hereafter”.....I was sold. This album is beautifully put together. The guitarwork is excellent and the flow of the album is really well put together. Really excellent effort. I will be digging into the back catalog once I have my fill with this record.
A bit more singing than I was hoping for but architects make it sound so good! Please stay heavy! Well worth all the hype.
