  • God's Love Is NOT "Reckless"...

I will probably buy the album, but delete the offensive song. Hebrews 2:2 and John 3:16-17 say enough to disprove the 'reckless' lyric. When this song is sung at church, I sing about God's Precious Love instead...

I am new to Michaels music! I just want to say how inspired I am by him and his love for dad! I once saw him in an interview and he said... that he wanted to never be offended! I was so touched by this, because I could tell that he was very real and genuine! I have listened to some of his new album and God has really been speaking to me through it! I currently have been facing some difficult times and “surrounded,” has been my battle song for peace and praising God during this not so fun time! “The word says for the spirit of heaviness put on the garment of praise!! THIS IS HOW I FIGHT MY BATTLES!!!” Thank you Mr. Smith for your continues praise and honor to our Lord and Savior!! Blessings, Mel. D
  • Exceeded expectations, perhaps his best live album

I went into this album with low expectations. I thought surely this would be mediocre at best, but I have to say that I was wrong. This is a really good album. Perhaps the best of his live recordings. The two best moments on it in my opinion are "Light to You" and "King of My Heart." He even does well with the current "it" song -"Reckless Love" (although the diction and live audio make it sound like he says "Breakfast Love" - once you hear it you can't unhear it). I usually like Smitty's studio stuff better, but compared to the simultaneously released "A Million Lights", this one edges that one out by a mile. My only critique is that his original praise songs on this album tend to be two liners: a verse and a bridge repeated way too much. But even with that, there are some really annointed moments on this record. Give it a try.

I liked Michael's original music. Nowadays he just dilutes the CCM world with his version of other people's original songs.

I have great respect for MWS. He seems to be one of the few Christian contemporary musicians who have managed to escape scandal...married to the same woman, kids not in jail, just seems like a decent guy. And a humble follower of Christ. That being said, this album makes me so thankful we still sing hymns in our church! We sing a couple of "ccm" songs, but the rest are the oldies but goodies. For the record, I'm younger than MWS (by a couple of years). My 35 year old son and 32 year old daughter feel the same way. The hymns of old have substance to them and teach the timeless truths of the faith. That's why they've endured for hundreds of years. YES, our Lord IS great, but if Martin Luther had written "Great is our Lord (repeat 57 times)" instead of "A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing," would we still be singing it today? In the emotional moment of a praise and worship concert, I can understand the appeal of these songs, but not as an album to listen to. This doesn't make me a heretic or an apostate, nor does it mean I am questioning the calling of MSW or his sincerity. It just means, that for me, one listener, I don't care for the mind-numbing repetitiveness of this particular record. I like my music to have a little more substance, or to tell a story. A lot of secular pop and rock (yes, I listen to popular music, don't get your hair in a twist) is also repetitive, but some of it speaks eloquently to the social justice issues facing our society, issues like poverty, that Jesus talked about all the time. Anyway, I digress. I miss songs like "Above All." I want to smh when I get to the 49th time of "You are so great Lord." I give this record 1 star only because I cannot give it zero.
